Spring has Sprung

It feels like the first day of Spring here today.

I walked out into our yard to find our only deciduous tree is in bloom.

Indigo was being her sweet little self ;)

Malakai was rocking out on the trampoline.

And we collected 3 eggs from our chickens, first time since March..

AND NOW . . .

And now just kicking back doing 2 of my 3 favourite things, having a coffee from my new machine and surfing Facebook :-) The 3rd being a little craft . . . which I will be enjoying later tonight.

PS. And . . . did you notice, I finally got myself a beautiful camera :-)

Looks like another month has passed

And no action from me in blogging land.

I am on Uni holidays at the moment and here I was thinking about all the craft I would get done . . . well . . . ummmmmmmm . . . didnt really happen. Been too busy catching up with all the things I didnt get to do when I was studying ;)

I did finish my hat, and LOVE IT!! The pic is rather bad as I still dont have a camera :( I think its been almost a year. I really need to get one. But alas, they cost money :(

My Uni is going well, I managed to pass all my units with is great. I didnt get HD's but hey . . . I dont have to repeat the units ;) Next semester is coming very soon. I am honestly not looking forward to it. Its just so hard!

When your having fun ;) Is that the way the saying goes. I feel like every post I put up here lately is about how much time has passed.

I have just finished off my first exam for my first year of study to become a Midwife. So glad thats over. I have another in a week and have been so motivated to study - NOT - LOL

So, this is what I have been working on instead ;)

A little (big) skirt

I made this little skirt last weekend for a GF's daughters 1st birthday. Turns out that its not so little afterall as I didnt use a pattern and just sort of cut and hoped for the best ;) Other than the fact its more of a size 3 or 4 its pretty cute.

OH WOW OH WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw a lap top decal a few months ago and then couldnt for the life of me remember where I saw it. The lovely Jane from Edith & Elizabeth on Etsy offered to make one for me.

I received them in the mail today and they are exactly what I wanted!!!!!!! They are just so super cool :) :)

Jane was so helpful and patient along the way, I can not recommend her enough. THANK YOU JANE!!!!

PS. The Decal is Apple Green, its hard to see in the picture though. I also got a red and blue one for when I feel like a change :)

Name Tag Swap

I am attending an event called Sew it Together which I am super excited about. Part of the event Gypsy is a name tag swap. I received my swap about a week ago but havent had a chance to post as we've been having PC issues (whats new hey ;) LOL)

So, what been going on in your world?

HEAPS has been going on here. One of which is NOT finishin the kids backpacks :( I have all the supplies, everything is cut out, the front panel is done but thats as far as I got before I started uni.

So, now I am a part time uni student which is like full time to me. Finding time between being a mum is proving to be quite hard.

Also, I am starting a new job :) Melbourne rep of Babes in Arms (Ergo baby carrier).

Will try and update you with some pics of my babies soon.

Lazy Days Hat

With the start of the school year my 2 babies started day care. Gee, it was a hard decision to make to send them. I had always imagined staying home with them till they both started school but impatient me got a bee in my bonet and applied to study Midwifery at ACU in Melbourne. I was super excited to be accepted but at the same time a little apprehensive about the changes it would make to my life. Gee, I bet you are starting to wonder what this has to do with the Lazy Days Hat - LOL

So, I start uni in a few weeks and am going to study 2 days a week to start with. So, the kids got sent off to day care last week for the first time . . . this meant they needed new hats of course ;) I am in the process of making them bags also. I will post more about that later.

So, here they are, 2 super sweet reversible Lazy Days Hats for Malakai (Medium size) and Indigo (small size).

I had a little bit of an issue with cutting so I had to sew the little strip of Robot Ribbon from Crafty Mamas to make the fabric stretch. Oh, also, if anybody knows who the designer is of the Robot fabric, I would love to know. I love it so much and only have a bookmark size piece left :(

Hey all, gee, I havent been a very good blogger lately have I? Sorry about that.

So, to update you a little I did some sewing for Christmas for some family. I made 2 x Project toy bags, 2 x diary covers and a little hand bag from the Made by Rae Buttercup Pattern. Its a lovely little pattern. I will definatly be making more of them. I only have a pic of one of the project bags though as I gave it away before I got any pics.

I havent really updated you alot with my little spunks. My 2 yo spunk, is no longer 2! He turned 3 on Tuesday. Hes been looking forward to his birthday so much. On his birthday we had cupcakes at playgroup and then today we had a little gathering in the park for him as well.

Its amazing looking at pictures of him, he is growing up to be such a little boy now, no longer a baby ;) Well, he will always be my baby.

And here is the other little baby ;) Indigo. I will catch a picture with them both in it one day.

Chicks make my heart melt . . .

In the last few months we have had 2 batches of chicks hatch. The first lot are about 6 weeks old and 7 out of 9 were Roosters!! I know . . .what are the chances. 2 Roosters went to a new home which was lovely, 4 got buried last night and I kept 1 Rooster and 2 Hens. They are pretty cute.

Ok, so the latest lot hatched 2 days ago, gee that are sweet. Check out these pics with mum (Brenadette) and a few of her babies.

We have another chicken sitting on eggs at the moment as well, this time skilies.

WOW WOW WOW!!!! I received the most wonderful package today from a lovely mum on Crafty Mamas

The fabric is Apple Dot by Sandi Henderson (yes I know the name, its one of my all time favs!!!)

She also wrapped it in the prettiest fabric which I cant wait to use and included a really handy mag. Thank you so much! I love it to bits, it really made my day/week/month/year!

Oh wow, I cant believe I forgot to share it with you!

This is the outfit that I made Indigo for her birthday.

The top pattern is by Pink Fig, the fabric is from the Mezzanine range by Patty Young aka Modkid Boutique.

The jeans were hand me downs that I altered as I was a little worried I had left it too late to make a full outfit for her. I was super happy with them.

Our little Princess "Indigo Gabrielle Lisa" was born.

What a bitter sweet day.

In the last year we have made the following memorable achievements:

- Indigo gave her first smile
- Indigo learnt to roll
- Indigo eats mummy's cooking
- Indigo can walk (as of last night, the eve of her first birthday)

And finally, one that I am most proud of, Indigo has been 100% breastfed, no bottle, no Artificial Milk, 100% mummy's milk! I am just so proud that I made it to this moment.

I am not sure if Chris and I will have any more children. We have been so blessed with 3 lovely healthy children (Cody, Malakai and Indigo). They are all such lovely 'active' personalities. Its been an absolute privilege seeing them all growing up. Having said that, they are all still babies ;) Cody is such a wonderful driven boy, although I am so close to calling him a young man. He knows what he wants and he seeks out to get it. Malakai is so full of energy. He will jump off the stage at church and even more surprising, he can get back up without using the stairs! Indigo is learning from her big brothers, she can climb a ladder (at 1!!) yet still adores her cuddles with mummy and daddy. Her newest hobby is to give me raspberries on my belly, its oh so cute :) Well, not to mention WALK now! There is no stopping her.

So, where to from here? The world awaits us :) Its such a strange feeling knowing that life goes on. We have passed out of the baby stage, heading to the toddler stage. Not only that, it doesnt stop there.

So, thats it from me, Happy Birthday my little girl, we love you very much and cant wait to see your life unfold before us and are so privileged to be a part of it.

The Melbourne Show

WOW, what a full on day. Its amazing how tired you can get by just 'walking' around all day.

We left on the train this morning to The Royal Melbourne Show. We werent planning on going but then my darling husband pointed out that the feature animal this year was Pekins so then we just HAD to go :)

I was really looking forward to it as Malakai is really into his animals at the moment. And guess what, we had a great day :)

We started out the day milking cows :) I was super excited about this one as I have never milked a cow. We all got to have a turn. Malakai even managed to get milk out as well :) Good one Kai :) Indi slept through it though so she never got to show her milking skills - LOL

After that we went to get Malakai's face painted as a tiger (pic above). I have never seen him sit so still. He was sooooo good. Every body we walked past for the rest of the day gave him a little growl which he just loved.

Then we went off to the Nursery were we got to see a little chick being born, a mummy dog with some very new pups and lots and lots of kid goats and lambs. Oh, and chickens as well :)

We went to see the chickens after that! That was fun. I told Chris that he could stay in the petting area but he wanted to come and check out the birds too. I think he secretly likes our chickens, I told him I wouldnt tell anyone though - LOL

(Not everyday you see a chicken, tiger, horse sandwich)

We then went to have some lunch which was then followed by Malakai and Indi deciding they wanted a sleep. So, what did they do?? Jump up into the carriers and have a little nap. It was so lovely. I had Indi in the Pikkolo all day anyway and Chris popped Kai into the Ergo on his back when he wanted a nap. We then enjoyed a stroll around the Food Pavillion which was really nice :) We did come out with some Chai tea and some Organic Corn Chips (which I am currently enjoying) and some potato seeds. The lady from Slow Foods (where the potato seeds are from) promised that I would be able to grow them :)

Oh, also I found out that there is a Farmers Market on every week in Mulgrave which is about 20 mins from me - ACE!

After all that we were super worn out, we hopped back onto the train and came home. We changed trains in the city to which Malakai definitvely said, after he took the last seat in the entire train, "There's no room for you Mummy". He then went onto say that Tigers eat tomatos and apples for dinner - very funny.

When we got home Kai - aka TIGER - had a shower. Much to our delight Malakai emerged from the shower Malakai again ;)

So sorry Mr Blog, I havent been keeping you up with the goings on in my life.

Honestly there isnt much to report on at the moment. I dont have a camera :( Which is getting me a little down. The Whirlwind that lives in our house - aka Malakai - left it for dead :( Have to work out how we are going to get it repaired.

Other than that, I have spent more time that ever stalking other peoples knitting and sewing and getting pretty much NOTHING done here. My house doesnt even look nice considering ;) LOL

So, I will, I promise, try and update you more often, but with no pics atm :(

I was involved in a little swap on Crafty Mumas and my package arrived yesterday from Stacey (from Outrageous)

It was an alphabet challenge so I received a lovely package full of items beginning with "S".

I was sooooooooooooo spoilt! I cant not believe how lovely my items were.

I received a SILK playcloth, hand dyed SOCK yarn and SWARORSKI crystal STITCH markers. The photos really dont do it justice. Its all so lovely and really made my day. Thank you so much Stacey!! :) :)

Clippies

I visited a friend yesterday for lunch (which also turned into Dinner) and what did we do . . . made some clippies :)

I will have to say, the glue gun and I didnt start the best of friends, took me a little bit to learn that less is more in clip making.

And . . . to top off the lovely day, we went to Mathilda's Market in Malvern in the morning. I bought these lovely pants for Kai and Indi. They are size small and large. The small is a little long for Indi at the moment but fit Kai as shorts :) They are from Miss Haidee. I will try and get some action shots later in the week.

Longies for Indigo

So, now that its half way through June I finally found motivation to knit some longies for Indigo. I bought some wool from The Dye Pot a month or so ago that really inspired me. Its yummy 12ply Organic Merino . . . MMMmmmmm

I made some Rice Buddys today :) AKA Heat/Cold packs.

I made 2 blue one and 1 yellow one. One of the blue ones is for us to keep as a cold pack as Malakai is always jumping off things and going "Owww".

The other 2 are for a first birthday party that we are going to tomorrow. I put lavender in the heat pack also.

Guess what, I finished the flower girl dress. Well, I finished it last week but didnt tell you ;) I havent got any pics of it yet as it didnt really look that great without a model.

But I am happy to report that the flower girl stole the show ;) She looked wonderfully flower girly - LOL

It wasnt your typical wedding so the fabric wasnt your typical fabric if you remember. My fav bit of the outfit was the poncho I made. I really love it, I will have to make myself and Indi matching ones :) Humm . . . can you put Poncho's on boys????

Last night Chris went to check on Malakai before we went to bed. When he opened the door he realised Malakai was asleep on the other side so he had to push Malakai across the floor with the door to get in.

When he got inside, he found a pair of goggles around his neck (Malakai loves goggles). Chris laid him down in bed and took the goggles off from around his neck. Then . . . Malakai said "Bye bye goggles" ha ha ha.

Chris was sure he was fast asleep but he wasnt, he was just happy for Daddy to carry him to bed. What a cutie :)

Indigo can crawl!

I cant believe it. In the last week Indigo has reached 2 mile stones. The first thing, she now has a top tooth! Its amazing, she has just gone 7 months old. I knew about it too though cause she has been feeding soooo much, poor bubba.

Second thing, she can now commando crawl - well drag herself. Right towards Malakai's super crunchy peanut butter sandwich *blush*

She is such a precious little bubba, I love her so much :)

Warning - Pic Heavy

I got 2 new chickens the night before last. All very exciting :) I am not 100% on their names yet but at the moment they are Sampson and Delilah.

They are called Pekins (they are missing a few tail feathers at the moment). I bought them from a Breeder in Melbourne called Bookachook. They are such a lovely pet to have. We now have 4 Hens and 2 Roosters. Mildred, Bernadette, Doris, Delilah (?), Noah and Sampson (?). If you have any suggestions on names please let me know :) The Rooster has to be an Biblical old testament name and the Hen can be any old fashioned name ;)

While I am here I will show off the new coop that Chris made for me. I am just so impressed :) Its so perfect :) Thank you to my lovely husband :) I now have 2 coops, one for them to sleep in every day which can house them all (Chris modified it from a double dog kennel a friend gave us with building materials we found during a hard rubbish collection) and one for when my hens go broody next summer for them to have little chicks in :) I cant wait. We hatched 3 chicks last year so hoping we can beat that this year coming.

And here is one more of Malakai snuggling into Noah, our current Rooster that is currently set for the chopping block :( Hes a little strange for a Rooster, not really sure what his deal is. Roosters generally look after their girls but he doesnt. We hatched him right before our last Rooster sadly died.

Monster Trucks

We went to the Monster Truck show last night :) It was quite $ to get in and if you ever plan on going, PRE-PURCHASE your tickets. We parked ages away and had to walk to the gate (took about half an hour) only to be faced with a cue that took just as long.

We eventually got in. When we walked up to the display area a truck happened to come past right where we were standing and frighted the life out of poor Malakai. For the rest of the night he stayed snuggled into my chest with my hands over his ears otherwise he became really upset.

Towards the end of the show he did come around a little bit and would look at the trucks driving past. So, having said all that, you can kind of assume, I didnt get to see much of the show :(

There were also some jet cars that Malakai quited liked as they werent quite as loud and the fire really lit up the night sky.

Indigo was such a treat :) She slept snuggled up on Chris's chest in my Pikkolo all night :)

If we ever went again we would get there much earlier, bring ear plugs for the kids, and put a blanket down to make sure we had plenty of room. Oh, and pre-purchase tickets - ha ha

I was blog surfing the other night at Carolyns place and check out this sweet blog I found ;) Well, I dont think it was lost but it was a new descovery to me. I am just loving reading blogs at the moment.

Easter

I woke up this morning in the usual bustle that happens in this house when we are trying to get somewhere on time (read *chaos* LOL) As I was having a shower I stopped, its Good Friday today, "What does that mean to me?"

Being a Christian it prompts so many thoughts and emotions. For one, sadness, I shouldn't feed sad though, its such a joyous time, what Jesus did for me gave me life, eternal life. The world we live we mourn the death of loved ones, but really, how can we feel sorry about being given such a gracious and undeserving gift?

We are off to have Breakfast with Chris's family this morning so will go now and ponder some more ;)

Yarn Shopping!

Well, I went to a yarn store and came out with a few little things, does that count as yarn shopping?? Sounds so grand when you see it in the title - LOL

Anyway, I went Sassafras Wool Store for a little window shopping, ON MY OWN!, this morning as Chris had the morning off work. I was under the instructions that I wasnt to spend any money. I did :( I am yet to break it to him, wish me luck ;)

Here is my little package I came home with.

I got some yummy Organic Merino for a GF's new little baby's beanie that I am going to knit and a new cable for my KnitPicks. AND, I got a 10% discount cause the lady felt like being nice to me :) So, all that for $18!!!!!!! Oh, and whats in the cute little package at the front left???

VINTAGE BUTTONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The lot for $3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, with my buttons I got today I thought I better make use of one. Perhaps that might ease Chris's mind to know I am using them?? Dunno, worth a try ;)

Its a pinwheel hair clip made from Amy Butlers new range with a little vintage button in the middle. I have it on now :)

Apron Obesssion

Ok, a friend of mine (Janine) introduce me to an obsession with aprons. What I find most amusing about it that I am yet to actually make one. I am drawn to the word 'apron' which makes me giggle a little.

I have some beautiful Valori Wells fabric set up ready to go but am yet to actually make it (the fabric in my header is from Valori Wells as well)

I just found this blog with a give away for an apron called Chruch Ladies Apron Pattern. I just LOVE it. I would have to say, followed a close second, came the Clothes Pin Apron.

This is the book that Janine has that started my love. I want to make this one. Which funnily enough has a free tutorial.

Daylight Savings

So, Daylight savings ended this morning so we get an extra hour sleep - YAY Well, that was prior to having kids :( Do you think that a 2yo or a 9yo understand the concept of having a sleep in, noooooooo.

Malakai gets up at about 6.30am since he moved into a bed, so that turned into 5.30am this morning. 30 mins later Cody followed.

I know that 6.30am is a normal wake up time for some people but I just cant 'do' mornings. I am without a doubt a night person. As long as I can remember I struggled to get out of bed in the mornings. Even when I was in prep I remember my Dad coming in to rip the covers off cause I wouldnt get moving.

So, now that its almost 8am I might try and get ready for church.

I think its pretty funky ;) Took me a while for 2 reasons.
1. I have an average Digital camera - bring on the SLR - LOL
2. I suck at Photoshop :(

So, guess whats on my wish list?? An SLR and lessons on how to use Photoshop. Yeah - I could actually read the manual but lessons seems like more fun ;)

Well, I drafted a pattern for the flower girl dress and it fits! I am pretty chuffed with myself ;) I am not entirly happy with how it looks but I think that might have to do with the fabric. I am sure that it will go with the bridal party and its what the bride asked for but . . . its just not what I would have choosen. This is the first time I have sewn something thats not my cup of tea. I guess its a good learning curve for me ;)

Other than that, my little boy softie is still waiting to be sewn up :( I cant quite get the fabric selection down for him.

I have been knitting as well a little beanie for a GF's little bubba. I will post a pic when I am done.

So, knitting and sewing hasnt left much time for my study :( I really need to get onto that.

WOW the week has flown by. Havent done any sewing this week :( Good news is that I started ANOTHER knitting project - LOL I frogged some longies I was knitting for Indi and started a NB beanie.

Been looking around at softies and really think I am onto something :) Been in contact with a few people about supplies do will see where it takes me.

So . . . here it is. The fabric for the flower girl dress. I will say, its not 'pretty' fabric. The bride is not going for the 'traditional' wedding so I have to come up with something a little different yet still pretty. I have an idea of what I might do. Its not exactly what I would call 'out there' but it does incorporate all the fabrics.

I will try and get a better pic tomorrow.

I have been asked to make a flower girl dress for a friends wedding, in 4 weeks!! EEeeek

Anyway, its out of woven fabric and brown leather. I will take a pic tomorrow so you can see it. Lets see what I can come up with ;)

Shopping

Well today we went shopping for new mattresses for the kids. We thought we better do some spending with our Rudd money ;) So . . . we bought:
2 x mattresses for the boys
1 x cot mattress for Indi

When we got the mattress home it didn't fit! Doesnt that suck. Now we have to go back again to swap it over.

All in all though it was so nice to actually get to do something with Chris for a change, even if it was shopping :)

Oh, and another thing, there is a cute little give away going on over here. All you have to do is have a look at her beautiful bunting and tell her which is your fav. My fav is the Valori Wells and Joel Derberry one. I am a little obsessed with Valori Wells at the moment :) My sister is looking for some decorations for her girls rooms, might have to send her over to see Giggleberry's Shop on Etsy

She has a friend ;)

I havent shown many people my blog so I am hoping that nodody pops in here and steals my plans . . . so, if you are looking at this, please be kind ;)

So, my idea at the moment is to make a softie pattern, sell it as a pattern, a kit with fabric precut and a few softies ready made. What do you think???

Reality Hits

Ok, I woke up this morning and reality has hit. Chris is really out of work :( Chris normally works between 6-7 days a week so to wake up this morning with him beside me was very strange. So . . . now, how are we going to pay bills :( I am starting to get really worried. I just have to keep reminding myself that God is in control :)

Starting out

So, this is me and my new blog :) I have never had a blog before but desperate times call for desperate measures - LOL

Where do I start?? Well, I am starting a blog cause I thought it might be a good place to start tracking my ideas and to keep up with other peoples creative ideas.

When talking about desperate measures I am talking about how things are going at moment with the economy. Today I found out that Chris (husband) is out of a job :( So . . . how can I start to lend a hand with supporting my family??

I have a few ideas but nothing really set in stone. Actually, things never get set in stone around here with 2 little kids - LOL

Will just have to wait and see how things progress :)
